ABOUT FIFA FAN GATHERINGS AND MARCHES…

A tradition for international soccer fans is to gather before a match and march to the stadium to show support for their team. Such supporter marches feature fans in their team jerseys/colors, with team flags and banners, walking together while chanting and singing. The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Police Department are managing all FIFA Fan March operations. The size of the supporter groups will vary by team, and some teams may not even have a supporter march at all. The City’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will announce any planned fan marches the day of through text alerts (text CupPHL to 888-777 to enroll).

Prior to the start of matches, team supporter groups are expected to gather at one of two designated locations: FDR Park and Marconi Plaza Park. The City is planning to have resources available at these locations, including Police staff, restrooms, water, barricades/bike-rack, and a PA System for authorities to make any necessary announcements. Fan marches are expected to occur 90 – 120 minutes before match start time. Temporary rolling road closures will occur as fans march to the stadium. Philadelphia Police and Fire Department will escort and manage all marches to minimize delays and disruptions. City Sanitation Department will follow the marches and cleanup as needed. In addition to such organized marches via an advance City permit, there may also be rolling closures in the area associated with first amendment activity and other gatherings/marches.
