Geary Park Grand Opening
On May 24, 2022, SCSSD held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the newly renovated Geary Park. SCSSD Board Members, along with District 1 residents and special guest SWOOP, attended the event. “Tonight serves as a wonderful example of how the Sports Complex Special Services District helps facilitate a safe, fun and vibrant community to live in”, said Salvatore DeAngelis of the Phillies.
The Geary Park project was developed in partnership with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), Seravalli Contractors, and the City Streets Department. The new park design features a strolling garden with 2,000 perennials, shrubs, grasses, and trees. Over 17,000 bricks were used to create the winding pathways within the park!
At night, the park’s dynamic lighting package really shines! Decorative lampposts, landscape tree lighting, and 20 programmable LED color changing uplights allow the park to display sports team colors on game day or special color themes for holidays.
SCSSD gratefully thanks the Phillies, Eagles, and Comcast Spectacor for fully funding all SCSSD projects and programs, such as the Geary Park project.
The new Geary Park is a beautiful addition to SCSSD’s 36 public green space areas it maintains throughout the District. We hope it is enjoyed for many years to come!
