Cleaning by the Numbers – 2020 in Review

January 12, 2021

In 2020, the SCSSD Cleaning Team experienced a three-month shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Since restarting operations in June, the Cleaning Team has followed enhanced health and safety protocols put in place throughout the entire work shift.  Despite the shutdown and challenges, the Cleaning Team had a very productive year working over 7,800 hours, collecting 264,750 pounds (132 tons) of litter, leaves, and debris. Stated differently, the Cleaning Team collected 3,301 bags of litter and 7,396 bags of leaves and debris! In addition, the crew removed curbside weeds from all District streets, assisted neighbors with the pickup of bulk leaves, and collected 43 truckloads of fallen tree branches. Also in 2020, SCSSD submitted 33 “City 311” requests for various topics, and removed 355 illegal signs/posters throughout the District. The SCSSD Cleaning Team continues to routinely check the 12 dog waste stations located throughout the District three times per week, adding small pick-up bags and changing out trash can liners as needed.
